Leaving for Spring Break? Use These Tips To Make Sure Your Ithaca Collegetown Apartment is Secure!

We know students need a break from all the studying and stress that college courses can create throughout the semester. Well, spring break starts at the end of this week and many students are traveling either home or to their favorite spring break destination.

At PJ Apartments, we want to provide our tenants with guidance on how to make sure your student apartment rentals near cornell is secure from theft or break-ins while you enjoy your spring break vacation. Here are some helpful tips to make sure you properly secure your apartments for break.

- Let our staff know the dates you will be leaving and returning, along with current contact information.

- Let a trusted neighbor know your plans and ask them to keep an eye out for suspicious activity. Have them call the police with any concerns.

- Do not allow mail or packages to pile up in the exterior mailbox if there is one. Have someone pick it up for you daily or contact the post office to have your mail held until your return.

- Remove all trash and recycling from your apartment as well as any perishable items from your refrigerator.

- Leave a couple of lights on to detour intruders.

- Be sure all windows are firmly closed and locked. Even ONE window left unlocked is an invitation for someone to access your apartment and remove your possessions.

- Keep blinds or shades closed while you are gone to prevent people from seeing any valuables left in the apartment (like TVs or Desktop computers).

- Take valuable possessions with you (including tablets, laptops, cameras, phones, etc.) and your jewelry, cash and any other valuable items.

- Lastly, but most importantly, make sure that all of your apartment doors are securely locked and dead bolted.
