If you are Going Away for the Holidays, Make Sure to Take Some Safety Precautions with your Apartment Rental

It has been a wonderful start to the year and our students have been hard at work with classes and activities. Studying has surely been exhausting and we here at PJ Apartments are sure you are deeply looking forward to taking a break and heading home to family or off with friends for your Christmas vacation.

Ithaca collegetown apartment rentals brings the best to you with options here at PJ Apartments that suit your needs and even those of your friends. Our units are all secured, lighted, clean and maintained 24/7.

As all the holiday rush descends upon us and the end of term finals have you up all night, be sure to make a check list of what to do to keep your home secure while you are away on vacation.

Make a List and Check it Twice

It's hard to try to remember all the things you need to do before heading home for the holidays. Writing down a list (we are sure you keep lists, right?) of what to do will be helpful and save you time and headaches.

Sadly, the holidays are a prime time for apartments and homes to be targeted for break-ins. With so many people away for an extended period of time, thieves are on the prowl and watching. Here are some tips to help you keep your apartment and belongings safe through your vacation.

Let our staff know the dates you will be leaving and returning, along with current contact information.

Let a trusted neighbor know your plans and ask them to keep an eye out for suspicious activity. Have them call the police with any concerns.

Do not allow mail to pile up in the exterior mailbox if there is one. Have someone pick it up for you daily or contact the post office to have your mail held until your return.

Be sure all windows are firmly closed and locked. Even ONE window left unlocked is an invitation for someone to access your apartment and remove your possessions.

Keep blinds or shades closed while you are gone to prevent people from seeing any valuables left in the apartment (like TVs or Desktop computers).

Take valuable possessions with you (including tablets, laptops, cameras, phones, etc.) and your jewelry, cash and any other valuable items. You may have to lug more bags with you, but far better to have them when you return rather than finding everything gone.

Last, but not least, be sure your apartment doors are securely locked and dead bolted. If you have additional security systems installed, be sure those are working properly and activated.
