The past week, Cornell Giving Day

I hope you’re all enjoying your first sampling of truly warm weather this week! Unfortunately, it’s not here to stay, as temperatures are dropping again this weekend and next week. Well, it was nice while it lasted!

If you’re a Cornell student living in our Ithaca collegetown apartments, you likely had an extra special week, since you had two wellness days off! I hope these two days were able to help you relax, unwind, and mentally prepare to push through and finish the semester strong.

In addition to the two wellness days on Tuesday and Wednesday, Cornell Giving Day 2021 was on Thursday, March 11th. What a fantastic opportunity to support the university, while simultaneously molding it into what you would like it to be. The ability to donate to specific causes under the larger umbrella of academic opportunities and services provided and offered by Cornell University, allows alumni, students, and families to all share their vision of what would make Cornell a more inclusive and special place for them. When working non-stop to get through the semester, one can lose sight of what an amazing opportunity it is to study here. Hopefully, the time off this week and the giving day following helped you remember.

Cornell Giving Day 2020, a year ago today, coincided almost exactly with the announcement by Cornell that students would not be returning to in-person classes after spring break, and should move home for the remainder of the semester. Looking back a full year later, it’s hard even to comprehend the significance of that moment, not just for Cornell, but for the entire world. It was likely (and hopefully) a once-in-a-lifetime event. Seeing everything grind to a complete halt so immediately was shocking and devastating on so many levels and for so many people. That’s not even touching the effects of the deadly infectious disease itself, which was a whole different hard pill to swallow. As a company, we tried to remain as compassionate and understanding as possible when communicating with tenants living in our Cornell student rentals.

Twelve months later and things have changed, but not tremendously. Thankfully, the state of shock, awe, and terrible uncertainty was the first to wear off. From there, safety measures and public understanding improved and Cornell students were able to return to school, partially in person, last fall. Now, incredibly, a light is shining at the end of the tunnel in the form of three unbelievably effective vaccines. The past year has been extremely challenging, frustrating, and, at times, boring, but it will hopefully be drawing to a close in just a matter of months.

While we’re looking into the future, do you think you might want to be moving into a new apartment not long after getting your first shot of the vaccine? We have several units that are still available for the 21-22 academic year, most coming available on June 1st. One extreme rarity was just added to the mix of available units; 209 Williams Street Rear, apartments 1 and 2. These units can be rented as four-bedroom apartments or can be combined into an eight-bedroom whole house rental! That means two living rooms, two kitchens, two bathrooms, and two of each appliance, including washers and dryers. If that sounds to you like a great collegetown rental to live in next year, please contact us!
